Privacy policy

FriendPage (friendpage.net) is a social network for people you know. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and how you can delete it. We do not sell advertising profiles, we do not run a ranked “For You” feed, and we do not post to Facebook or Google on your behalf.

1. Who we are

FriendPage is operated at friendpage.net. Questions about this policy: [email protected].

2. Information you give us

When you create or use a page, you may give us:

  • Name, username, and email address
  • A password, if you sign up with email
  • Profile fields such as about, hometown, relationship, music, movies, books, and interests
  • Photos you upload, including captions and comments
  • Board posts, journal entries, messages, and friend requests
  • Network or group memberships (for example a school or work email domain)
  • Invites you send, and reports you file about abuse

You choose who can see most of this under Account: only you, friends, people in your networks, or anyone. Posts default to friends.

3. Facebook Login

If you choose Continue with Facebook, Facebook shares information with us after you approve it. We ask only for what we use to open your page and fill it in.

What we receive

  • Public profile — Facebook user id, name, and current profile picture
  • Email — if Facebook has one on the account, so we can reach you and recover the page
  • Hometown and current city — to fill empty About fields
  • Likes — page names we group into music, movies, books, and interests when those About fields are empty
  • Friends who also use FriendPage — Facebook will not give us your full friend list. We only see people who have also Continue’d with Facebook and granted the friends permission. We use that overlap to make you friends here.

What we do with it

  • Create or sign you into your FriendPage account
  • Copy your current Facebook profile picture into your Profile pictures album
  • Fill empty About fields (we do not overwrite fields you already edited)
  • Create FriendPage friendships with overlapping users, and notify the person who is already here
  • Keep a Facebook access token so we can finish that import and later re-check friends

What we do not do

  • We do not request your Facebook photo library or albums
  • We do not post, message, or advertise on Facebook as you
  • We do not sell Facebook data or use it to build an ad profile
  • We do not invent FriendPage accounts for Facebook friends who never signed up

You can unlink Facebook by asking Meta to delete our access. When Facebook sends us a data-deletion request, we delete the imported profile picture, drop the Facebook login link, and show a confirmation on this page. Your FriendPage account can remain if you also have email or Google sign-in.

4. Google sign-in

If you Continue with Google, we receive your name, email, whether Google verified that email, and a profile photo URL. We use that to create or sign you in. We do not read your Gmail or post to Google. If you later choose Connect Google Contacts on Invite, we read names and email addresses from that contact list so you can pick people to invite. We do not mail the whole book, and we do not store the list.

5. Information we collect automatically

  • Session cookies so you stay signed in
  • A short-lived invite cookie if you arrive from an invite link
  • IP address and browser user agent on the session, for security
  • Server logs (errors and operational events). We redact emails and passwords

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or analytics pixels. Cloudflare may sit in front of the site for security and caching.

6. How we use information

  • Operate your page, friends, photos, journal, messages, and groups
  • Show content to the people you chose with visibility settings
  • Send email for verification, password reset, and invites you requested
  • Rate-limit abuse and review reports
  • Keep the service running (backups, storage, email delivery)

We do not use your content to train public AI models or to target ads.

7. Who can see your information

Other people on FriendPage see what your visibility settings allow. Public fields can be seen without signing in. Friends-only content is limited to people you accepted. Messages are between the people in the conversation.

We share data with service providers who run the product for us:

  • Hosting and database (application servers and Postgres)
  • Object storage for photos (for example S3-compatible storage)
  • Email delivery for account mail
  • Facebook and Google, only for the sign-in you start

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect people from serious harm. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a brief invite cookie so an invite survives the Facebook or Google redirect. These are necessary for the site to work. We do not use advertising cookies.

9. How long we keep it

We keep your account and content while the account is open. Photos you delete are hidden from the site. Server logs are kept only as long as we need them to run and secure the service. Facebook access tokens expire; we replace them when you sign in with Facebook again.

10. Your choices

  • Edit your profile and visibility at Account and Profile
  • Change or remove photos, posts, journal entries, and messages you wrote
  • Unfriend or block someone
  • Sign out; that ends the current session
  • Email [email protected] to ask us to delete your account and associated data
  • Use Facebook’s settings to remove FriendPage’s access; Facebook will call our deletion callback

11. Children

FriendPage is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think we have, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and access controls on the database and photo storage. No method of transmission is perfect. Please use a unique password if you sign in with email.

13. Changes

If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of FriendPage after that date means you accept the updated policy.
